Confusing? The 1952 name comes from the date the original cantina - on the same site - was built.

The wine is a combination of Negro Amaro 80% and 20% Montepulciano. According to the Greek geographer Strabo the city of Brindisi has been a city of viticulture since antiquity and was founded by settlers from the Cretan capital - Knossos -  in the 16th Century BC.

The estuary on which Brindisi is built is shaped like a stags head and one theory is that the name comes from the Messapian word ‘brunda’ meaning stags head, however an alternative suggestion is that it is derived from the Italian for a toast - brindisi as sailors used to toast each other’s success with cups of wine on leaving harbour.

The wine has an intense ruby red colour with an extraordinary elegant aroma of woodland fruits. The wine is aged for a year in barrique and then 2 years in bottle before release. The oak gives the wine its delicate, lightly tannic and persistent flavours. It combines well with spiced dishes, roasts and aged cheeses
