A rich nose displaying dark cherry, spice and subtle mushroom characters.
Producer: Palliser is one of the older vineyards in New Zealand's Martinbourgh with vines planted in 1984. The main grapes grown at Palliser are Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. Palliser Estate produces wines under two brands Pailliser estate and their second label Pencarrow.
Region: The township of Martinborough is an hour's drive from New Zealand's capital, Wellington. The vineyards tend to be planted on the old river beds in deep stony and free-draining soils, which ensure a good supply of minerals to the vines with Pinot Noir being particular good from this area.
Style: More to accompany a special dinner than for everyday drinking, these wines are showing more complex flavours and some will improve with a few more years of ageing. Includes Pinot Noir, a wine that tends to be lighter in colour, body and tannins because of the grape’s thin skin. As the wine matures it develops gamey characteristics and much fuller fruit flavours.
